Welcome back the team at 93 Made Games, as they prepare us for their latest foray into the Viewniverse with Viewpoint Revisioned. A card game for 2-6 players, it will be on Kickstarter looking for funding from Thursday evening. So is it worth backing?
The game is quite straight forward. Players play cards from their hand, perform the action on it, and then add up the points total of all the cards they have played currently visible. If their score is 100 or more, they win. Simple as that.
How the cards interact is where the game is at. You might be drawing two cards, or making another player discard a card. Maybe you are moving played cards around, or just swapping hands with another player.
There are opportunities to help or hinder players, and even to create card combinations that see you jump into the lead. Whatever you are doing, players are gradually accruing (and losing) cards in front of them. Bringing them closer to, or farther from, their 100 point goal.
From my experience with the preview copy, Viewpoint Revisioned seems like it is really easy and quick to learn. Even for those who aren’t regular players in the tabletop space. The simple terms and clear iconography probably plays a considerable part in this, as well as the component light nature.
And while it’s just a deck of cards, and so has a filler look to it, the way the cards can interact in complex ways makes it more like a starter to an evening. Rather than something you break out to quickly fill a space. As it seems unlikely that once everyone has finished the first game it will immediately be packed away. It has that spark in it that makes you want to try and push the card combinations just that little more.
Viewpoint Revisioned will be published by 93 Made Games, who are also running the Kickstarter. They have previously released a number of other Viewpoint games, plus titles like Monster Town and No Fish. So they have proven experience in bringing a tabletop game to fruition. Which means you can back with a high degree of confidence.
Also of note, the preview copy I was sent is also really well made, with good quality linen texture cards, well laid out booklet and sensible box construction. So if the preview copy is any indication of the final product, which it seems is the case, then Viewpoint Revisioned is going to be a top notch addition to anybody’s collection.
