A little while ago Jeanne over on AppBlogger wrote an article about Kickstarter failures. This led to her being contacted by Professor Ethan Mollick who explained what she had gotten wrong. So Jeanne and Ethan struck out together to take a more statistical look at Kickstarter numbers.
The resulting article, The Untold Story Behind Kickstarter Stats, is an intriguing look at the data of successes and failures on the crowdfunding platform. Those who are familiar with the ins-and-outs of the platform probably won’t be terribly surprised by the findings. However, for anyone beginning to explore this avenue of revenue generation it is an eye-opening look beneath the shiny veneer of ludicrously successful campaigns. Even if it is very ‘USA-centric’.
