Hobbyists, in particular diorama builders and scale-modellers, will find this series of photos fascinating. The Slightly Warped Website has a series of close-up photos of well known Star Wars vehicle models that appeared in the original trilogy. Browsing the gallery and taking in the level of detail applied to these models, it gives you a renewed appreciation for how these special effects artists created a new standard in movie-making.
I particularly like the under construction Death Star from Return of the Jedi. It is obviously a hugely complex and labour intensive model. Yet, when photographed on a black background, it becomes eerie, ethereal and weightless. I wonder what happened to this, and the other, models.
