Kickstarter hacked

On Wednesday 12 February law enforcement officials contacted Kickstarter and alerted them that hackers had sought and gained unauthorized access to some of their customers’ data. When they learnt this, Kickstarter immediately closed the security breach and began strengthening security measures throughout their system.

Kickstarter have said that no credit card data of any kind was accessed by hackers. However, some information about their customers was accessed, information including usernames, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, and encrypted passwords. At the moment Kickstarter believes that actual passwords were not revealed, but it is possible for the encrypted passwords to be cracked, particularly weak or obvious ones.

As a precaution Kickstarter is strongly recommending that users change the password of their Kickstarter account. Questions, comments, or concerns can be sent to Kickstarter at accountsecurity@kickstarter.com.
